AUDITECO GES was retained by a manufacturer of pumps and pumping systems operating in more than 60 countries to perform a combined Phase I and II environmental site assessment and coordinate a preliminary geotechnical survey at a site located in the proximity of Bucharest. The property was not developed and had been used for agricultural purposes in the past; there were indications of past uncontrolled disposal of various construction debris at the site. The purpose of the assessment was to identify potential issues associated with past activities at the site, and to assess, on a preliminary basis, environmental ground conditions with respect to on-site and off-site historical activities which might have impacted soil and groundwater quality.

Data room activities comprised a review of historical layouts of the site and surrounding area, and other relevant documents.

A drilling contractor was commissioned by AUDITECO GES to perform drilling activities and the geotechnical survey. The location of intrusive investigation points was established so as to be relevant for both environmental and geotechnical purposes. Six (6) boreholes were advanced to maximum depths of 15 m below ground level by dry percussion drilling. Environmental sampling included the collection of soil samples at selected depths, and collection of groundwater samples from temporarily installed standpipes. Subsequently, the chemical analyses plan was based on potential contaminants associated with the past agricultural use and potential issues arising from uncontrolled waste disposal (e.g. pesticides, asbestos).

Project reporting incorporated detalied conclusions of the site assessment and recommendations for the benefit of the Client, so as to:

  • Foresee any environmental risks associated with current physical site conditions;
  • Give an indication of environmental regulatory requirements for a future site development;
  • Provide support in the decision-making process for a potential transaction.
