An Environmental Due Diligence / Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) is a process of assessing an asset, a property or a business in order to understand and manage the existing and potential environmental risks and liabilities associated with an acquisition, a sale, a merger, a lease, a closure of a site, cessation of activities etc.
AUDITECO performs Environmental Due Diligence Assessments / Environmental Site Assessments on behalf of companies, investors and their representatives, as part of the due diligence process around investments, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), exits or post-transaction phase.
Evaluarea de mediu poate fi:
- A Summary assessment based on available documents and information (without site visit);
- A Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (Phase I ESA) carried out on the basis of available documents and information, visual observations from the field, interviews with key persons, satellite images, site history, etc.;
- A Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (Phase II ESA) which also includes soil and groundwater investigations (soil and/or groundwater sampling and physical-chemical analysis) to identify potential contamination, seeking to determine the nature and extent of potentially contaminated areas, as well as the associated risks. Furthermore, a Phase II ESA can provide a preliminary estimate of remediation/decontamination costs, together with the relevant legal steps to be considered in this situation.
The development of environmental site assessment reports can be done according to USA ASTM standards, as applicable in Romania, or through a broader approach of environmental topics including aspects of compliance with environmental legislation in force or emerging environmental legislation.
The Environmental Site Assessment can be extended to cover the Health and Safety (H&S) topics and the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspects as well.
